I came here twice while visiting Paris. I was looking for vegetables and their salad was exactly what I needed. It was excellent. I had salad with fried chicken. They provide good portions and the staff was very friendly. I requested they put dressing on the side and they were accommodating. I will be back on my next visit to Paris.
I picked up some food at this spot and sat at the Canal Saint Martin!
Amazing vibes & delicious moist halal chicken.
Stopped by here for lunch and while it was busy we got right in. I got the Spike Lee, boneless honey chicken and waffles with fries and it was great. The shop is small but a lot of people seemed to be doing take away so don’t worry if there is a line.
Black owned eatery in Paris. Had a 8 hr layover at CDG so i came to Baba Zulu and tried the chicken fingers and Mac and cheese. Chicken was well seasoned but the Mac and cheese was sub par. Could def tell an American probably did not open this spot although it’s American food but can’t be mad cause I’m in Europe 🤷🏽♀️
Was super excited to order a calypso bc i haven’t been to the states in so long. Nice ambiance for a takeout spot. Played UK rap most of the time which I did not expect because I am a fan of French rap but the music was still on point. Def recommend giving it a try if you ever are in Paris or have a layover.
Decor was very urban and nice. Cool vibe and good hip hop music. Super disappointed about the food because it looked delicious.
Spike Lee chicken tenders DO NOT taste well with the waffles and syrup (the sauce throws off the taste)
Chicken tenders 3/10 were not really coated in bater enough or fried crispy enough.
Waffles 2/10 were very dry
French fries 10/10 were perfection and taste really good with their unique condiments (mango curry)
Mac and cheese 3/10 was flavorless and lacked cheese
Great halal soul food in a small soul-filled spot. Fried chicken was great, full of flavor and not too greasy. Mac and cheese was not that great, lacking the creaminess and cheesiness of mac and cheese. The space is quite small with limited seating inside, but the service is quick and efficient.
The food and experience of this restaurant was quite average, especially when you love chicken and waffles. The space is quite small, so you sit really close to your neighbor, but the music was greeaaaaattt🔥 When it comes to the food, the chicken was alright but the waffles were dry and hard. It was clear they made the waffles before the chicken, so it was difficult cutting into it, on the small plate. Overall, if you have never eaten chicken N waffles, its a great place to start👍🏾
Spike Lee combo is a better choice than the classic Baba Zulu combo in my opinion. Can't make up mind to choose a clear winner between Baba Zulu and Gumbo Yaya. Gumbo Yaya has a slightly spicier chicken while the Baba Zulu one is on the sweeter honey glazed side.
But in terms of location and seating Baba Zulu was way better than Gumbo Yaya, so I'll prefer this for visiting with friends.
